Meet Kristin

Hi! I'm Kristin Gunner, the doula behind New Day Doula. I live outside of Charlotte, NC, with my husband and our dog.

I come from a blended family, so I'm both the oldest and the second oldest (confusing, I know). My six siblings are everything to me, and I know I wouldn't be where I am today without them.

Although I wouldn't have guessed at the time, my journey to becoming a doula started when my youngest brother was born. I'm eleven years older than him, and I've been taking care of him his whole life. I would sometimes even get up in the middle of the night to feed him so my parents could sleep.

Unsurprisingly, I went on to work in childcare. I've cared for children of all ages, including babies, in various settings over the years. I fully believe that every child I've ever cared for has helped make me a better person.

It wasn't just the children who left an impression on me, but their parents as well. I saw all the ups and downs of the journey into parenthood. I wanted to provide better support during life's most transformative moments.

I felt drawn to birth work after listening to their stories, along with those of friends and family members who have given birth. Most of them wished they had better support during their pregnancies, and I know they deserved better.

I decided to become a doula to support parents, especially women, and help them feel empowered in their most vulnerable moments. I want them to feel seen, heard, and cared for, and to know that there is always someone on their side.

Why "New Day?" I wish I could give some deep, profound reason, but I got it from something Samwise Gamgee said in The Lord of the Rings:

"But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer."

I want to help prepare you for a new day, a new season of life, regardless of what that looks like for you.
